News and Updates:
January 3, 2012
Happy New Year! We are now finishing up #95 and are beginning work on the remaining numbers in the upper 90's. Also, we're finishing up the design and testing on a new style of case which will be hexagonally shaped. Unlike the wooden hexagonal cases made by Lachenal, these cases will allow the instrument to lay and open from it's normal horizontal playing position. This style of case is much more compact than the standard box shape making it more travel friendly while retaining the same amount of cushioning that our box shaped cases have. The hex case will be the standard case that comes with our instruments and we will also make these available to the general public (price TBD). The case comes in two sizes. The larger case will accomodate a 6 1/4" instrument (our standard size) and the small case will fit a 5 5/8" instrument (our small size instrument). Sept 14, 2011
We are now finishing up instruments in the 80's and will soon start on instruments in the low 90's. We expect to end the year around #95. We've also taken on a new employee, Amy, who builds our cases and does numerous other jobs around the shop as she is learning the process of making instruments.

At the end of last year, we purchased a building and will be moving our operations this April. We are now working on instruments in the mid to upper 70's. We also can now be seen on Facebook at Carroll Concertinas on Facebook.

We are now in the 70's. Photos of #64 are now posted. This instrument features the Art Deco design with rosewood trim. It also shows the Art Deco bellows papers.

We are now working on instruments in the low 60's. A variation of the Art Deco model with rosewood trim and side inlay is now in the works and photos will soon be posted. New bellows papers have also been designed for this instrument.
The About our Instruments page has also been updated.

The smaller sized instrument , #45, was completed in September and photos have now been posted to the photo gallery. This particular instrument features an Art Deco endplate design that is only available on the smaller instrument. The smaller instrument is also offered with the traditional Wheatstone pattern.
Photos of instrument #30 have also now been posted. Instrument #30 features a new wood option: Santos Rosewood with black trim. This wood also looks very nice with Indian Rosewood trim.
We are now working on six instruments that will bring us into the lower 60's.

Things have been hectic around the shop with several new developments underway. The three most notable include 1) a new adjustable lever action that is now standard on all new instruments, 2) adding C#/G# to the list of available tunings and 3) a smaller sized instrument which measures approximately 5 5/8" across the ends. The new action allows the owner to tighten individual levers in order to eliminate any clicking that develops as the instrument experiences wear. The smaller sized instrument is still in development and the first instrument should be completed by the end of summer.
In other news, Instrument #48 was just completed and nos. 49 and 50 will be completed by the end of next week.

Instrument #40 (pictured to the left) is the most ambitious instrument we have made to date. This instrument features our first set of bellows papers, a unique wood combination (Amboyna ends with Padauk trim), brass buttons, and two sets of interchangeable reed pans in the keys of C/G and Bflat/F.
Also, recently posted to the photo gallery are photos of Instrument #33 which features Padauk ends with Mahogany trim and brass buttons.
In the future new instruments will only be posted to the photo gallery if they offer something different from existing models.

Instruments #35 and #37 will ship next week. #36 is in production along with #38-40. We are averaging about 2.5 instruments per month. If you are in the 40's or 50's, you should begin to think about what options you would like on your instrument. Because of the increase in production, I am lowering the wait time to approximately 2-1/2 years.
October 4, 2008
Instrument #30 was completed in September and #31 shipped on October 3rd. #32 is about a week away from shipping and #33 is moving along as well.
Aug 12, 2008 Instrument #28 has shipped, #29 is nearly complete and #30 is also moving along.
Over the past two weeks, we have received a large number of new orders. Because of all that is going on at the shop (see July 7th note) I don't have a good handle yet on when a newly received order will be completed. The best guess I can make is between 3-5 years. Over the next couple of months I should get a better idea of how the new innovations and employees are affecting the schedule.
July 7, 2008 The new shop is up and running, 4 assistants have begun work, and things have been moving along at a dizzying pace. Unfortunately, it has become very difficult finding time to update the website. Here is a brief summary of what we've been up to.
Instrument #27 was completed in June, #28 is nearly complete and 29 is moving along as well. In addition, over 30 more instruments are in various stages of production.
New reed making equipment has been installed and is producing reeds of the highest caliber.
